One vehicle that has garnered significant attention as of late is the upcoming 2021 Buick Envision. As many drivers are already aware, the Buick Envision is an outstanding 5-passenger compact SUV. While this segment is crowded with stiff competition, the Envision from any year does well and offers drivers a luxury version of one of the more popular types of vehicles on the road today. The 2021 Envision will be no different. With a slew of impressive upgrades and a few other features that have stood the test of time, the 2021 Buick Envision is sure to impress. To get a better idea of what this spectacular SUV has in store for us in the new year, here is a closer look at the 2021 Buick Envision.
Starting at
While not every spec and feature of the 2021 Buick Envision has been made public yet, performance is one area where some things are known for certain about the 2021 Buick Envision. In an announcement that also cataloged the Envision’s laundry list of safety features, Buick revealed the exhilarating engine that will make the Envision one of the most exciting SUVs on the market.
Under the hood, the 2021 Buick Envision will have a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine that runs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and will be capable of generating 230 horsepower. The 2020 Envision already had a peppy engine standard, a 2.5L 4-cylinder that produced 197 horsepower that came standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The upgrade to an engine capable of 230 horsepower will be thrilling and make the Envision really move.
The 2020 Envision actually had another engine option (not to mention all-wheel drive). The second engine was a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine that was coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 9-speed automatic transmission. While this sounds similar to the 2021 offering, the horsepower and torque ratings are very different with up to 252 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
If there was one area the 2020 Envision was lacking, it was in the engine, and it is encouraging to see that Buick rectified the issue with a stronger, more capable transmission standard across all trim levels. With 230 horsepower and a 9-speed automatic transmission at its disposal, the 2021 Envision will be even better than the 2020 iteration, and that is exciting news.
What really made the 2020 Envision such a compelling SUV is that it has a long list of standard safety features. Many of the advanced driver-assist features that have made a number of SUVs seem ultra-safe only come on the higher trims and at a steep cost. But that is not how Buick has typically approached the Envision, and it is expected that the trend will hold true with the 2021 Envision too. As a matter of fact, its suite of safety features is one part of the Envision Buick has already announced.
In the same statement referred to above, the list of standard safety features is nearly exhaustive. For starters, Front Pedestrian Braking and Automatic Emergency Braking, a couple of technologies that can actually stop the car for you in some cases, will come standard on all 2021 Envision trims. Forward Collision Alert is another example of a great safety feature that will come standard and is a nice addition to the collision avoidance package.
The 2021 Envision will also come standard with Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, which both alerts you if the SUV begins to swerve into the adjacent lane and can even steer the vehicle back into its lane in some instances. The Following Distance Indicator will also be standard and will help maintain a safe distance from cars in the front of the vehicle.
Another technology that is often billed as one of convenience but doubles as a safety feature is the Head-Up Display (HUD). With the HUD, drivers will be able to see who is calling them, what the speed limit is, how fast they are going, and several other pieces of vital information without ever having to take their eyes off the road. This will make driving the 2021 Buick Envision safer than ever.
The large 10” touchscreen will also contribute to the overall safety of the 2021 Envision as it will allow drivers to navigate and change songs without having to strain their eyes. And with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, drivers will be able to stay connected without having to lift a phone to their ears. Anything to keep cell phones out of the hands of drivers is a smart move, and Buick integrates this technology perfectly to make for a very safe and functional ride in the 2021 Envision.
Finally, two more great features, Rear Park Assist and an HD Rear Vision Camera, will help take the stress out of parking and help make sure you, other cars, and pedestrians around you are all safe. It is technologies like Rear Park Assist that not only make the 2021 Buick Envision safer, but more convenient too.
These features are all in addition to the even longer list of available safety features, which are sure to make the 2021 Envision an extremely safe SUV. Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert are only a small sampling of the technologies that will be available on the 2021 Envision.
Fuel economy is one area where the 2021 Buick Envision is expected to do quite well. While Buick prides itself on its luxurious finishes and feel, it doesn’t stake any claim to being the most fuel-efficient SUV on the market. And to be sure it isn’t. But it does put up some impressive numbers and reinforces the idea that an SUV can be both easy on the eyes and easy on the environment.
The 2020 Envision, for example, had a better than expected fuel efficiency rating with 20-22 MPG in the city depending on the engine, and anywhere from 25-29 MPG on the highway (again depending on the engine). While Buick has yet to release the official fuel economy numbers for the 2021 version, we do know that they are going with the 2.0L engine, which was able to get 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway for a combined rating of 22 MPG.
While there is a chance the 2021 version might be able to improve on those numbers slightly, they offer a good guess and what we can expect for the fuel ratings for the 2021 Envision.
Whereas the 2021 Buick Envision is decidedly a superior vehicle in the categories you would expect like performance and style, it is no slouch in the category of fuel economy either. This type of surprising competition is one more reason the 2021 Buick Envision is set to be an excellent addition to the Buick lineup of SUVs, and we can’t wait to get our hands on one when they are available.
While Buick has yet to set a release date for the exciting, 2021 Buick Envision, we are waiting with great anticipation and will update you when more information is available.
