Chevy Dealer Lexington
If you’re looking for a Chevy dealer, Lexington, KY, is the place to be. It’ll be difficult to find a dealership that tops Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Paris. There are four Dan Cummins dealerships in the Lexington area, including two Chevy/Buick dealerships and two Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM (CDJR) dealerships. The first Dan Cummins location was founded by Sam Cummins in 1956, and his son, Dan, took charge in the 1970s. While Dan still holds the name, his son Josh took over the company in 2010, passing it down through three generations.
A History of Family Owned and Operated Dealerships
The family has really held their own, with Dan Cummins being named the #1 dealership in Kentucky from May 2015 and onward. Part of what has made this dealership so successful is our customer service and relatability. For years, employees of Dan Cummins have made yearly Christmas story videos, where they write their own song each year, including video footage of what it’s like inside their workplace. These videos also include humor and the dealership’s history, along with bloopers, making us even more approachable.
In addition to this, Dan Cummins has been donating to local charities for years. We are a sponsor of CASA of Lexington events, and we even host the Angel Tree donation event, which provides Christmas gifts to families in need. Further, Dan Cummins helps abused and neglected children in the family court system by funding volunteers through our donations to CASA. We’ve also been known to donate to Meals On Wheels, an organization that delivers food to families in need, and we also donate to Girls In The Know, an organization that encourages young girls to be empowered through mentoring and bullying prevention methods.
Lastly, in 2018, we saw a story about a local dealership’s false advertisement that led to a very disappointed child. The advertisement had convinced a young boy that his family had won a big, fancy television, and the dealership even confirmed their win over the phone. To his disappointment, the dressed-up child arrived at the dealership, only to find out that the promise was nothing more than a sales tactic to draw in customers. Lundy was so upset by this that he decided to buy the child a new television, and he added a Nintendo Switch with new games into the mix to make the kid’s day even better. Overall, Dan Cummins and its employees have a long history of helping out locally, bringing more than just vehicles to the Lexington area. If you’re looking for a Chevy dealer in Lexington, Kentucky, this is all the more reason to check out Dan Cummins.
A Brief Lexington, Kentucky History
While most people think of cars when they hear the term “racing,” Lexington has a different experience. In the late 1700s, “street racing” had an entirely different meaning, as the newly founded streets became horse racing locations. Eventually, after growing concerns, actual horse racing tracks were built to keep citizens safer. This is how the beloved Keeneland location came about. Keeneland was owned by John and Mary Keen, who sold their property for an affordable price, leading to the opening of Keeneland, a non-profit horse racing track. Even to this day, Keeneland’s auctions and ticket sales contribute to its events and help keep its doors open.
Lexington, Kentucky, is also the childhood home of North America’s 16th President Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. He lived in Kentucky as a young boy, attending his first school, his first church, and being discovered by his mentor here in the Bluegrass state. His mentor, Graham, first saw Abraham Lincoln performing farm work, but he didn’t get to know him until dating Abraham's teacher after moving to Illinois. While much of Lincoln’s adult life was spent elsewhere, he returned to Kentucky for a speech promoting William Henry Harrison, and important parts of his early life occurred in and near Lexington, Kentucky.
Unique Places to Visit in Lexington
Speaking of horses, one fun and historical place to visit is the Kentucky Horse Park , which offers entertainment year-round, even during the winter season. Some of its attractions include its Christmas Southern Lights Holiday Festival. This is a drive-thru Christmas light session that has been happening for over 20 years, and it occurs during the winter season. If you happen to be in the area during warmer weather, the horse park offers a campground, youth riding camps, horse riding trails, museums, statues, and barn tours. There are also art and story exhibits, such as the Black Horsemen of Kentucky, which highlights African American influence on Kentucky horse racing.
Lexington is also packed with historic house tours, one of the most interesting being Mary Todd Lincoln’s childhood home tour. As we mentioned earlier, Lexington was an important part of the Lincolns’ lives. For this tour, children 0 to 5 can enter for free, while kids get in for 6 dollars, and adult tickets are 15. This affordable home tour is educational and beautiful, lasting approximately a mile.
Another popular historical site is Old Fort Harrod State Park , which houses the Lincoln Marriage Temple, the “Big Ole Tree,” which is the largest Osage Orange tree in the United States, and Kentucky’s oldest cemetery, the Pioneer Cemetery. Much like Fort Boonesborough, Old Fort Harrod has cabin rebuilds, mimicking the original settler’s homes. The museum contains artifacts from the 15th century, all the way to the 1900s.
Finally, the aforementioned Keeneland location is even more interesting now than it was years ago. There are several events that occur throughout the year, but at any time, you can book a tour or attend a self-guided tour, viewing the Jockey’s Quarters and other behind-the-scenes treats. While you’re here, be sure to check out the Keeneland Track Kitchen to get a full Kentuckian experience of home-style cooking.
