2023 Encore Engine and Performance

2023 Buick Encore By Buick.Com
The 2023 Encore‘s engine is the same 1.4-liter four-cylinder unit from last year’s model. The engine received an overhaul for the 2022 model year to boost its output, which is now 155 horsepower compared to the 138 horsepower it previously generated. This added power will give your Encore more zip around town or on the highway. The gear changes are taken care of by a six-speed automatic transmission.
In the base front-wheel-drive setup, the Encore achieves 32 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg on city roads. If you step up to all-wheel drive, those figures drop slightly to a respectable 30 mpg and 23 mpg, respectively.
Buick Encore Cargo and Passenger Space
The Encore’s amply proportioned cabin provides plenty of space for five adult passengers to ride in comfort. If you need to install child seating, you’ll find two sets of LATCH connectors on the outermost rear seats and a tether anchor on the middle seat.
The standard cabin features cloth and synthetic leather upholstery. You also get power adjustments for the driver’s seat and a cover for the cargo area at the rear.
Behind the rear row of seats, you’ll have 18.8 cubic feet of storage space. That’s enough to hold a large load of groceries or luggage for a weekend camping trip. If you need to transport more oversized items, you can fold down the rear row of seats to open up 48.4 cubic feet of space.
Encore Infotainment Features
A 7-inch screen and six-speaker stereo lead the Encore’s base infotainment system. In addition to that, you get two USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide smartphone compatibility, and you can control key settings on your infotainment system with voice recognition.
Another standard feature is the Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows you to stay online wherever your journey may take you. You also get proximity keyless entry to make the job of getting into your Encore that bit easier. Remote start is offered as an optional add-on.
Encore Driver Safety
Many of the driver safety features offered in the Encore are available as optional upgrades. The only standard safety feature is the rearview camera.
You can add blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which are extremely useful in helping you detect drivers approaching from behind. If you’d like a little help parking your crossover, consider adding the front and rear parking sensors. Avoiding accidents can be easier thanks to the forward collision warning, which alerts you to potential hazards or obstacles up ahead. Highway drivers will appreciate the lane departure warning feature to help them stay on track. And the rain-sensing windshield wipers ensure you retain good visibility whatever the weather.
Buick Encore Trims and Pricing
Unlike many crossovers, the Buick Encore is sold in one trim only, the Preferred. It has an MSRP of around $25,000. You can add some extras to the Preferred trim, such as the Safety Package, to gain access to blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Safety Package 2 includes all the other optional driver safety tech. All-wheel drive is another add-on, costing an additional $620. The big advantage with AWD is that you have more control and traction on slippery surfaces, such as during the winter or extreme weather events.
What’s the Difference Between the Buick Encore and Encore GX?
Despite their similar names, the Encore and Encore GX are two different vehicles sold by Buick. The Encore GX is a larger vehicle, making it more attractive for buyers who require more cargo space than the Encore offers. Buying the Encore may make more sense if space is a premium where you drive and park.
The Encore GX is available with two engine options: a 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit that puts out 137 horsepower and a 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine that generates 155 horsepower. The larger engine provides just as much power as the Encore’s only engine option.
The passenger space in both vehicles is about the same, with both Buicks offering room for five people. The Encore GX has over 23 cubic feet of storage at the rear, which is a touch more than the 18 cubic feet on offer in the Encore.
Let’s take a look at the Encore GX and its several trim options. The Encore GX’s three trims are Preferred, Select, and Essence. The two higher trims give you the option of the more powerful engine under the hood.
The range-topping Essence trim gets an upscale cabin with genuine leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. You also have the opportunity to add several luxury items, such as a surround-view parking camera, a navigation system, and wireless device charging.
